Why are there so few women becoming software engineers? The reasons largely still remain unclear but indubitably goes beyond the explanation that women are simply not interested in these fields.
We can do more to question the perceived culture around pursuing computing degrees or in acquiring a job reflective of the characters in Silicon Valley or Mr. Robot. Mithi Sevilla, a Senior Frontend Engineer from Datature and proud COLF Alumna, shares her insight on challenging stereotypes: “Things won’t change if no one steps up to make that change“. In a field that is traditionally male-dominated and continues to be made up of around 95% men, women can contribute significantly to the industry’s advancement and create a more inclusive work environment.
